Kurit-Lagting originated in 2002 as a mural painting collective comprising six members. The name is a fusion of the Bikolano terms "kurit," signifying drawing or marking, and "lagting," representing the hard shell of the pili nut, a symbolic icon of Sorsogon province. In 2011, the group transitioned into a formalized art collective. Over the years, Kurit-Lagting has evolved into a dynamic force, expanding its membership to approximately 30 artist-members, many of whom are self-taught. Beyond their artistic pursuits, the group has embraced a commitment to advocacies centered around human rights and environmental concerns.
Today, Kurit-Lagting stands as a testament to the transformative power of art in fostering social awareness and positive change.
